The county was organized in
1864 out of Nez Perce County, but was not organized until 1881. The County Clerk
has birth and death records from 1907 to 1912, marriage, divorce, probate and
civil court records from 1881. The recorder maintains all land records since
county inception. Marriage licenses were not required in Idaho until 11 March
1895.

The state of Idaho began keeping birth
and death records in 1911. It began keeping marriage and divorce records in
1947. For earlier records look in the county where the event occured. The fee
for obtaining birth, death, marriage, and divorce records is now $10.00. Besides
including the full name or names, with the woman's maiden name, the date and
place, your relationship to the person or persons, & your signature, you also
need a photocopy of a picture ID. There is no refund for a negative search.
